Summary
Dear Editor, - I think Brenda Bullock has raised some valid points in her recent letters about low standards of literacy and numeracy, though I must say that poor literacy does not seem to me to be confined to the young.
My theory is that not enough time is spent in schools reinforcing things like the basic rules of grammar, or how to do mathematical calculations. I find that unless I practise something regularly, I forget how to do it.See the full content of this document
