Dear Editor, - The Irish Republic reached a milestone at the end of March, with a full year's implementation of a smoking ban in all public places. There has been a successful 97 per cent compliance and the ban effectively functions there. Only nine people have been prosecuted in the year, despite fears that the ban would never work, all offenders receiving the full 3,000 euro fine.
In Ireland, 7,000 people have quit smoking since the ban was introduced there and sales are down from 15 per cent to 17 per cent.See the full content of this document
