Dear Sir, Andy Skinner recently (and rightly) railed against Birmingham's poor profile compared with other cities such as Liverpool. The reason the scousers won the City of Culture award wasn't because Cherie Blair comes from there, but that the National Union of Journalists had held its annual conference at The Adelphi just before the judges arrived.
Birmingham is in a position to benefit when the NUJ brings it's Centenary Conference to the city in April next year. This is costing about a third more than going to Liverpool or a seaside resort and, apart from some support from Land Rover and interest from Chiltern Trains, there has been hardly any interest from the second city's "good and great".See the full content of this document
