Dear Editor, May I be allowed to offer some small assistance to your correspondent Mr Ian Payne of Lichfield (Post, September 4). I think he may find that what he refers to as the "Birmingham Gateway" was the Doric Portico at Euston Station.
It seems that Betjeman, though associated with the campaign to save it, was not its leader (see A N Wilson's recent biography) but he wrote an article in the Daily Telegraph, spoke to the Royal Fine Arts Commission and joined a deputation to the Prime Minister (Macmillan) about it.See the full content of this document
