In life, they say, timing is everything. With a large investment bank (Lehman Brothers) failing and speculation about who else might be in trouble, it would be easy to forget that in Birmingham we need to keep our plans to regenerate and transform the City on track. The fundamentals that sit around our long-term economic strategies remain as valid and strong as they were before any of us had heard about a credit crunch, the housing market collapse or soaring commodity prices.

What is different is how we might find the money to improve the public realm.
