It seems the Symphony Hall audience is gaining a reputation for itself in the piano recital world for its prowess at coughing, to the extent that on Saturday an announcement had to be made from the stage reminding us of the acoustic's merciless magnifying of such sounds.
We were also informed that the evening's soloist, the distinguished French pianist Pascal Roge, wished to perform each half without interruptions of applause after every piece. Fine, highly commendable, and indeed he forged strong unifying links between each element of his all-French programme as one offering led to another - but where did this leave the audience, who, in all fairness, needed various gaps in which to shift positions and possibly clear their throats?See the full content of this document
