Summary


Two of the biggest construction groups in the West Midlands have been hit with fines totalling more than pounds 6 million after illegally rigging contracts at the expense of the taxpayer.

Carillion and Thomas Vale were among the 103 companies ordered to pay penalties totalling pounds 129.5 million by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) yesterday after an investigation into bid-rigging on 199 public sector building tenders between 2000 and 2006.
