Amid fears of a gloomy festive season for retailers, shoppers in the Midlands have been named most likely to buck the trend and splash out.

Results of a survey conducted by the Institute for Customer Service have revealed that 22 per cent of shoppers in the region will spend more money on Christmas than they did last year. The Midlands narrowly beat northern England to the top of the list, which will be included in the Institute's biannual Customer Satisfaction Index.
