T-Mobile UK - the British arm of Europe's second-largest mobile phone group - is throwing down the gauntlet to fixed-line rivals after launching eight high-speed mobile internet devices in time for Christmas.

The Deutsche Telekom controlled venture, which has been losing market share in fiercely-competitive Britain, said it expected to woo hundreds of thousands of customers to its "web 'n' walk" internet service over the next couple of years.
