No Surge in House Prices, Say Analysts

Summary


House prices rose at their fastest rate in almost a year in August after the Bank of England cut interest rates but analysts are sceptical whether it is the start of a new upward trend.

The Halifax house price index climbed 1.6 per cent last month in the biggest increase since September 2004 to an average of pounds 165,967 after a 0.4 per cent gain in July.
