Summary


The Government has launched a sweeping review of tidal power to work out if barrages over estuaries such as the Severn can solve the looming UK energy security crisis.

The Sustainable Development Commission, which reports directly to Tony Blair, has sent out tenders to consultants to research towards a definitive report on tidal power's economic and environmental benefits - in particular, the pounds 14 billion proposal for a huge 10-mile barrage across the Severn Estuary.
