Broadcasters should employ more older women to read the news, to help put an end to age discrimination, according to an MP.

David Winnick (Lab Walsall North) said seeing more women in their 50s and 60s presenting major television programmes would send a powerful message about the valuable role played by older people in society. The MP also called for an increase in the retirement age, which enables an employer to sack staff once they reach 65.
