Poor money management on the part of the disorganised and the spendthrift means that many are forced to miss out on snacks, morning coffee and celebrity gossip. Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank's latest cash usage survey found that over a quarter of the population (28 per cent) runs out of cash at least once a week - meaning they have to skip their daily treats.
One in four couldn't buy sweets and snacks (24 per cent), while a fifth had to forgo their news or celebrity gossip fix (21 per cent).
