I used to work in an independent off licence. Shops like it don't exist any more. The chain world of Majestic and Threshers hewed them down.
In those days, a budget had a dramatic effect. Customers came in immediately after the Chancellor's pronouncements, shaking their heads and buying less as we changed price labels. Today, it's all a bit remote. Last week's Budget was avowedly 'aspirational'.
