A t least 244 Muslims were crushed to death and hundreds injured during a stampede at the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

It was not the first time Muslims had been trampled to death in the pilgrimage of two million people. Fourteen pilgrims died last year and 35 were killed in 2001.
