Developing the environmentally-friendly powertrain technologies of the future has seen different manufacturers come up with a number of diverse approaches. Jaguar Land Rover has benefited from government grants to develop its Range-e plug-in diesel-electric hybrid system and the technology was recently recognised when it won the Society of Motor Manufacturers' 2011 Award for Automotive Excellence.
Fitted to a special Range Rover Sport test vehicle it is the precursor to a whole range of production models. SUVs have borne the brunt of criticism in the automotive industry over their perceived poor environmental credentials but Land Rover vehicles of the future are set to transform the company's carbon footprint.See the full content of this document
