Helping local businesses win contracts from the public sector is something Birmingham Chamber has been involved in for some time. Although public spending is going to have to be cut significantly to bring the public finances back under control, there will still be large sums spent. In Birmingham, for example, pounds 7.5 billion is spent each year delivering public services. Even a 25 per cent cut in that figure leaves about pounds 5.6 billion.
Attempting to win contracts from the public sector can be an intimidating process for smaller businesses.
