Rare Spitfire at Aircraft Museum

Summary


A rare Supermarine Reconnaissance Spitfire has been added to wartime exhibits at a Midland aircraft museum.

The plane, built in 1943 but never used in combat operations, is now on display at the RAF Museum Cosford, near Wolverhampton. With a top speed of 445mph, the aircraft could reach a remarkable flying altitude of 42,500ft as it operated weather research flights to check on conditions for pilots.
