WHY? Back during the Industrial Revolution, Redditch was the place for sharp operators - it was famous for producing 90 per cent of the world's needles. It also made fish hooks and fishing tackle, then later batteries, springs, motorbikes and other light industrial products.

The Forge Mill Needle Museum & Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre celebrate the town's heritage and tell the story of needlemaking in Victorian times.

Redditch Revealed ... ; Alison Jones Explores This Often Overlooked Worcestershire Town

On the same site there are the ruins of a medieval Cistercian abbey dating back to the 12th century.

In Norman times the area which is now Redditch was covered in forest and it was villages in the area - Feckenham, Tardebigge, Beoley, Alvechurch and Ispley - that appeared in the Domesday Book.
