Dear Editor, How disappointing that Khalid Mahmood has chosen to respond to Coun Len Clark's "warts and all" report by calling for the Government to take over children's social services (Post, October 6).

Councillors of all parties have recognised that this is a longstanding problem which has developed under successive administrations and are committed to working together in a constructive manner to deal with these problems. That this exceptionally critical report was written by a member of the ruling group just demonstrates how committed we are to openness and transparency on this issue.
