The Government needs to make sure tax laws allow companies to reward top staff during tough times, a Birmingham tax expert has said.
David Paul, an employment tax adviser at Ernst & Young's Birmingham office, said when economic conditions were tough - and rewarding staff with wage increases and bonuses was not an option - flexible benefit schemes and remuneration packages can help cash strapped corporates to retain and motivate their employees. But legislative 'anomalies' were reducing the effectiveness of the provision of certain benefits which, with some tweaking, could provide much-needed additional relief to the West Midlands business community and help the region to retain its talent.See the full content of this document
