The housing market went back into overdrive in July, showing the biggest year-onyear surge since May 2003, the latest Nationwide survey showed yesterday

The easing of house price inflation seen in May and June evaporated amid a monthly increase of 2.1 per cent which compared with a hike of 0.9 per cent in June. Prices have risen by 12 per cent since the start of the year and the average house now costs pounds 154,299.
