A Labour MP launched a bitter attack on an animal welfare campaign group, accusing it of misrepresenting party plans over the future of shooting and angling.

The row erupted yesterday at a Labour conference fringe meeting in Brighton organised by the League Against Cruel Sports after chief executive Douglas Batchelor called for an end to a cruel "killing" field in the countryside that saw millions of birds slaughtered annually for sport.
