Service Cuts Fear in City Budget Overspend

After only four months of the financial year Birmingham City Council's budget is heading for a pounds 10 million overspend, raising fears of service cuts to bring the finances back into line.

In his first direct public challenge to the ability of the ruling Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition to balance the books, the chairman of the main scrutiny committee said he was worried about what might happen.
