Summary


Lahti Symphony Orchestra and conductor Osmo Vanska are such seasoned Sibelians that their confidence and ease with these seven tone poems comes as no surprise. There is absolutely no striving for effect here, and instead the listener is treated to an account of Sibelius's orchestral writing that is revelatory, even in these relatively minor works.

The sound alone is enormously satisfying - resonant, well- balanced, and proudly substantial without sacrificing an iota of detail - but it is essentially the interpretative judgment, particularly in the tempo choices and the pacing of dynamic change, that makes these readings so convincing.
