Retailers suffered "disappointing" sales last month as winter discounting ended and snow set in.

The value of sales fell 1.8 per cent on a like-for-like basis in February compared to a year ago, showing January's surprise sales rise to be "just a discount driven blip", according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
