Normal service may have been resumed as four-day cricket returned to New Road yesterday, but nothing had changed as far as the identity of the main man pressing all the right buttons.

Vikram Solanki has, even by his standards, enjoyed a pretty successful past week or two on Worcestershire's near monthlong sabbatical of one-day stuff. But, in the company Andrew Hall, who hit a season's best 60, Solanki, who has not reached 1,000 first- class runs for the past three summers, proved he was just as proficient at the more protracted game.
