With spending falling and fellow retailers dropping like flies you could forgive Andy Street for feeling down about prospects. Retail sales volumes dropped by 1.4 per cent in May, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) , as food stores and household goods retailers both saw sales slide.
But the John Lewis chief executive remains bullish and said although retail sales this year are "flat" the forecast is positive and the focus remains on the future and the company's long-term expansion plans.
