Obafemi Martins and Peter Lovenkrands came off the substitutes' bench to hand Alan Shearer a first win and Newcastle a Barclays Premier League lifeline last night with a 3-1 home success.
The Nigeria international struck within seconds of replacing Michael Owen on 70 minutes of a pulsating encounter and the Dane hit the winner on 86 to drag the Magpies out of the relegation zone and send Hull into the bottom three. It was Newcastle's first home win since December 21 and only their second anywhere in 18 attempts.
