Summary
Painswick was 'Proud Painswick' and always competing (especially in cock-fights) with 'Strutting Stroud' a few miles distant. But Painswick - that is the most aristocratic of Cotswolds towns - has so much of which to be proud. It is built of a lovely local stone that is white compared with the butter-hued limestone further north so it glows so beautifully in a winter's sunshine.
This is a town that has so much of interest that it is difficult to get going on the walk. I have therefore suggested a figure of eight walk so a shorter ramble can be made if time is short.See the full content of this document
