Summary
On this day in 1652 Britain was plunged into terrifying darkness by a total eclipse of the sun. Panic spread across the land, people thought they would go mad in the unnatural darkness. Many refused to leave their homes, those who could fled the cities for the country, and all expected something terrible to happen.
