Gordon Brown underlined his belief in university-led scientific working with industry as the engine of growth in tomorrow's economy, with a 25 per cent increase in spending on science.
The Chancellor also challenged universities and businesses to work side-by-side to use scientific progress to boost the national economy, highlighting a pounds 100 million funding pot for successful collaborations.
