A cull of compulsory exams will be proposed by the leader of the Government's review of secondary education when it issues its latest recommendations next week.
Former chief schools inspector Mike Tomlinson, chairman of the working group on reform of 14-19 education said 'large volumes of mechanistic assessment' had 'adverse effects' on pupils, teachers and the curriculum alike.
