Travellers have abandoned their bid to build a permanent camp in Worcestershire, ending two years of legal wrangling which has cost council taxpayers pounds 26,000.

Less than two months before a second planning appeal was due to take place, the gipsies have accepted legal advice that their cause was not worth pursuing and withdrawn their objections.
