Summary


The widow of a father-of-five who became the oldest British serviceman killed in the wars in either Afghanistan or Iraq has told how they spoke the day before he died.

Gary Thompson, 51, a Senior Aircraftman in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment, was fatally injured in a roadside bomb blast on Sunday during a patrol outside Kandahar Airfield, the main Nato base in southern Afghanistan.
