An aid worker travelling on a ship packed with 300 people when the tsunami smashed into Sri Lanka told how he narrowly escaped death as the boat lurched through the churning water.

Perinpamoorthy Namatheran, aged 26, was on his way to visit his family in the Tamil Tiger rebel-held area of Muthu when disaster struck.
