Union leaders made a "strong case" to aerospace giant Airbus yesterday for the need to retain its UK factories amid fears of job cuts under restructuring plans.

Officials met chief executive Fabrice Bregier in Paris to discuss the plans after reports that some work on the wings for the A350, a proposed mid-size jet, could go to Spain and Germany.
