The prospect of an all-out strike by thousands of Birmingham council workers moved a step closer last night after the biggest public sector union vowed to ballot its members for industrial action over the imposition of a pay and grading review.
Unison warned that front-line services including refuse collection and street cleaning could be severely disrupted following an escalating row over the city council's Single Status salary shake- up, which will leave more than 5,000 local authority workers facing pay cuts - some by as much as pounds 10,000 a year.See the full content of this document
